Movie Review : Vengeance 复仇 by Johnny To

Why i specify Johnny To? Because apparently the name Vengeance had been claimed by many movies.

Many big names is the Cantonese movie world are in this film, most notably my favorite Anthony Wong, and this film also had Simon Yam as the big bad guy.

And yeah, it has Johnny Hallyday as the French-hired-hand-turned-chef.

It goes like this. Hallyday's character, Costello's daughter had her family slaughtered in Macau. Alone, he went there and got a request for revenge by the barely surviving daughter. In Macau, he met a trio of hired killer led my Anthony Wong's character Kwai and seek their help. One thing led to another and there is a big twist at the end of the movie.

And i would say there are two finale here, both very climatic.

And this movie also gives some big laughs.

As this story revolves around these killers, bullets run freely. Blood flows. And bad people seems normal, as they had families to support too.

And guess what, there are killer's ethics too.

When i first watch this movie, it almost seems to run a singular story line, another forgetable movie.

I still felt that way.

But the acting is good, and for some people, this movie got them thinking, and its not about "when memory is lost, will there be vengeance?" thingy.

It will get you thinking, hey, don't those cool blooded killers just the same as us?

But in the end, this movie is destined to be forgotten, and maybe the only respite will be from some awards that this kind of movie usually will get.

Verdict

Story line : Not really thick, easy to understand, but still, its decent

Acting : With all the veterans, this can be a tutorial of how acting is done for the young actors

Fun factor : Had a good time. Decent entertainment

Value for moeny : It depends. What kind of movie that suit your taste?

Overall : You see, this is an art house type of movie. Everything is seemingly slow and directionless. But they had direction. Not everyone's cup of tea, but seriously, watch it first.
